Math number sense & anniversary
It’s a day with special numbers.
Our business was founded on 18 Jan 2010 when my eldest boy was a baby, so it’s our 14th anniversary.
When I moved to Kuala Lumpur to join the Daddy, I put aside my thriving career in Singapore and built a new one involving my children and education, especially math (my favourite subject).
This week also marks my 16th wedding anniversary.
Last night, at our quiet dinner date, I chose a soufflé for dessert.
It’s numbered 13937.
Me being me, I simply had to prime factorise it:
13937 = 7 x 11 x 181
Oh… all the prime factors are palindromes!
(A palindrome is a number that reads the same forwards or backwards.)
How about number bonds?
13937 = 10000 + 3900 + 37 = 10000 + (3 x 13 x 100) + 37 (prime)
Our lives are filled with numbers, regular and special ones.
By showing an interest in numbers and finding relationships among them, we can help our children be curious in math and build their number sense.
